This Interactive Simulation has grades 6–8 Middle School Physical Science students run a hands-on classroom model of Synthetic Materials from Natural Resources.

Driving question: "How can we synthesize a bio-based polymer from natural agricultural resources and test its physical properties against petroleum-derived plastics?" Objective: Synthesize a bioplastic film using cornstarch, water, glycerol, and vinegar, test its tensile strength and biodegradability, and iteratively modify reagent ratios to minimize environmental impact.

What's inside: objective and background, a materials list (Natural cornstarch powder and distilled…; Glycerol (glycerin) plasticizer and 5%…; 100 mL glass beakers, stirring rods,…; Laboratory hot plates and non-stick…), an 8-step protocol, a data table, 4 analysis questions, and teacher notes.

Resource type: Interactive Simulation (.docx). Format: editable Microsoft Word lab handout with approximately 680 words (~5 pages).

Classroom use: a team investigation in a Middle School Physical Science course. Grades 6–8.
